Hoshizaki F and FD flakers and nugget machines (F-801, F-1002 and similar)
Auger-type flakers with a reservoir float switch, gear motor and bin control (infrared sensor and/or mechanical paddle). Faults are counted out as beeps every 5 seconds.
What it is: Flake and cubelet ice machine. Covers the F and FD models in the combined Hoshizaki flaker service manual, including MLH remote models.
Key combo: Count the beeps (every 5 s). Press SERVICE after the gear motor starts to skip the 5-minute ice purge during checks.
Hoshizaki F and FD flakers and nugget machines (F-801, F-1002 and similar) error codes
| Beeps | Meaning | Likely cause | How to reset |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Low water safety | Upper float still open 90 s after the water valve opened: supply, filters, valve screen, drain valve leaking | Automatic once water returns and the upper float closes. |
| 2 | Control switch left in DRAIN over 15 min | Switch not returned to ICE | Automatic when the switch goes back to ICE. |
| 3 | High-pressure switch: first or second trip within an hour | Condenser dirty or fan fault, water-cooled supply, overcharge | Automatic once pressure drops below the reset point and the switch closes. |
| 4 | High-pressure switch: third trip within an hour | Same as 3, now repeated | Manual. Turn power off and on. Leave the machine off until the cause is fixed. |
| 5 | Freeze timer | No refill for over 30 min, so the reservoir water is not being turned into ice. Work through the freeze-cycle checks in the manual | Manual. Turn power off and on. |
| 6 | Low control voltage (about 92 VAC or less) | Supply or transformer | POWER OK LED goes off. Resets by itself when voltage is corrected. |
| 7 | High control voltage (about 147 VAC or more) | Supply or wiring | POWER OK LED goes off. Resets by itself when voltage is corrected. |
| 8 | Gear motor: compressor control relay contacts did not close | Gear motor protect relay or circuit | Manual. Turn power off and on. |
| 9 | Bin control fault | Infrared bin control 1 failed (with S1 dip switch 7 on) or mechanical backup paddle engaged | Manual. Turn power off and on. |
How to enter service / parameter mode
- Turn the power on with the control switch at ICE. The POWER OK LED should stay on.
- Watch the status LEDs: WTRIN (fill), GM (ice purge), then GM, WTRIN and COMP during freeze, FLUSH during drain.
- Press SERVICE once the gear motor starts to skip the 5-minute ice purge.
Other useful key presses
| Task | How |
|---|---|
| Drain cycle | By default the drain valve opens for 2 s every hour; dip switch S1-4 changes this to every 12 hours with a 10-minute drain. |
| Manual drain | Move the control switch to DRAIN for cleaning. Return it to ICE within 15 minutes or you get the 2-beep alarm. |
Notes
- Dip switch numbers and some timings vary between F and FD models in the combined manual. Check the tables for your model.
For licensed technicians only. This equipment can involve mains voltage, high-voltage microwave circuits, gas and refrigerant. Isolate power (and gas) before opening panels, follow the manufacturer's manual and your local licensing rules (for example ARC refrigerant handling and electrical or gas licences). Wrong settings can spoil food or damage equipment. Check every value on the unit in front of you before changing it.
