Scotsman EC106 / EC126 / EC176 / EC206 / EC226
Spray-type cuber. The PC board reads evaporator, condenser and infrared bin sensors; LEDs on the board and a red alarm light on the front report faults.
What it is: Self-contained cube ice maker. European-built Scotsman (Frimont) cubers with a 4-LED PC board, red alarm/reset button and 10-way DIP switch.
Key combo: Press the board push button 2–5 s during water fill for Cleaning Mode, or more than 5 s to skip fill, force harvest or force freeze. Hold the red reset button 5 s to reset a high-temperature trip.
Scotsman EC106 / EC126 / EC176 / EC206 / EC226 error codes
| Code | Meaning | Likely cause | How to reset |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red alarm LED on steady | Condensing temperature too high (over 70 °C air, 60 °C water cooled) | Dirty condenser or air filter, fan motor fault, no condenser water, hot room | Fix the cause, then hold the red reset button 5 s until the light goes out. |
| Red alarm LED blinking | Evaporator still above 0 °C 15 minutes into freeze | Leaking hot gas or water inlet valve, short of refrigerant, compressor cycling | Find and fix the cause before restarting. |
| Freezing LED + red LED on (front light blinks twice and repeats) | Condenser sensor out of order | Failed sensor or wiring | Replace the sensor, then hold reset 5 s. |
| Freezing LED + red LED blinking | Evaporator sensor out of order | Failed sensor or wiring | Replace the sensor. |
| Bin full yellow LED on | Stopped on full bin | Normal, or a faulty ice level control | Restarts 6 s after the beam clears. Clean or replace the level control if it stays on. |
| Bin full LED blinking slow | Infrared beam broken | Ice in the beam, dirty sensor | Clears when the beam is restored. |
| Bin full LED blinking fast | Beam restored after a bin-full stop | Normal | — |
| Bin full LED blinking alternately | Infrared sensor out of order | Sensor fault | Clean or replace the level control. |
| Freezing LED blinking | 60-minute start-up delay active (jumper J3 out) | Normal setting | Press the push button during the delay to skip it. |
| Front red light steady (machine on) | Condenser air filter needs cleaning | Reminder | Clean the filter. |
| Front red light slow blink (machine on) | Water system due for cleaning | Reminder (6 or 12 months) | After cleaning, hold the red reset button for more than 20 s until it blinks. |
How to use the board push button
- To clean: during the water fill phase, press the board push button for more than 2 but less than 5 seconds.
- To skip the water fill: press it for more than 5 seconds during fill.
- To force a harvest: press it for more than 5 seconds during freeze.
- To end a harvest early: press it for more than 5 seconds during harvest.
DIP switch settings
| Code | What it does | Range | Default / typical |
|---|---|---|---|
| DIP 1–4 | Length of the timed end of freeze | 16 combinations | 1–25 min (per model chart) |
| DIP 5–6 | Harvest program: ON-ON A, ON-OFF B, OFF-OFF C, OFF-ON D | A–D | per model |
| DIP 7–8 | Extra harvest time: ON-ON 0, OFF-ON 30 s, ON-OFF 60 s, OFF-OFF 90 s | 0–90 s | per model |
| DIP 9 | Pump run at start of harvest | off 15 s / on 30 s | per model |
| DIP 10 | Condenser cut-out temperature | on 70 °C / off 60 °C | air on, water off |
| Jumper J3 | Start-up delay | in 3 min / out 60 min | — |
| Harvest length | Set by how long the evaporator takes to go from 0 °C to −15 °C | 90–180 s | — |
How to change a setting (DIP switch)
- Switch the machine off and isolate power before touching the board.
- DIP keys 1–4 set the timed (second) part of freeze, from 1 to 25 minutes.
- Keys 5 and 6 pick the harvest program (A, B, C or D) for cube size.
- Keys 7 and 8 add 0, 30, 60 or 90 s of extra harvest time.
- Key 9 runs the water pump for the first 15 s (off) or 30 s (on) of harvest.
- Key 10 sets the condenser cut-out to 70 °C (on, air cooled) or 60 °C (off, water cooled).
- Restore power. The board reads the switches at start-up.
Notes
- Each model and condenser type has its own factory DIP pattern, printed in the manual. Copy the original pattern before changing anything.
For licensed technicians only. This equipment can involve mains voltage, high-voltage microwave circuits, gas and refrigerant. Isolate power (and gas) before opening panels, follow the manufacturer's manual and your local licensing rules (for example ARC refrigerant handling and electrical or gas licences). Wrong settings can spoil food or damage equipment. Check every value on the unit in front of you before changing it.
