Carel easy (PJEZ)
Low-cost panel thermostat for plug-in fridges and freezers with up to three probes, compressor relay and on some models defrost, fan and aux outputs.
What it is: Refrigeration thermostat. Covers the easy, easy compact and easy split families. Parameter visibility depends on the model letter (S, X, Y, C, M).
Key combo: Hold SET for 3 s until PS shows, press SET, enter the service password with UP/DOWN, press SET.
Carel easy (PJEZ) error codes
| Code | Meaning | Likely cause | How to reset |
|---|---|---|---|
| E0 | Probe 1 (control) fault | Probe open, shorted or wrong type | Clears by itself when the probe reads normally. Buzzer and alarm relay on. |
| E1 | Probe 2 (defrost) fault | Probe open, shorted or wrong type | Clears by itself. |
| E2 | Probe 3 (condenser / product) fault | Probe open, shorted or wrong type | Clears by itself. |
| IA | External alarm from the digital input | Input set as alarm (A4) has triggered | Clears by itself after the input returns to normal. |
| dOr | Door open alarm | Door switch open longer than A7 | Clears by itself when the door closes. |
| LO | Low temperature alarm | Below the AL limit for longer than Ad | Clears by itself. Check AL, Ad and A0. |
| HI | High temperature alarm | Above the AH limit for longer than Ad | Clears by itself. Check AH, Ad and A0. |
| EE | Unit parameter read error | Corrupt memory | If it stays or keeps coming back, replace the controller. |
| EF | Operating parameter read error | Corrupt parameters | Manual: re-enter and re-save the parameters. |
| Ed | Last defrost ended on time, not temperature | Defrost too short (dP), end temp (dt) too high, heater or probe problem | Clears after the next defrost that ends correctly. Shown only if A8 = 1. |
| dF | Defrost running (not an alarm) | Normal defrost, shown when d6 = 0 | Clears at the end of defrost. |
| cht | Dirty condenser pre-alarm | Condenser hotter than Ac | Clears by itself. Clean the condenser; check A4, Ac, AE, Acd. |
| CHt | Dirty condenser alarm | Condenser hotter than Ac + AE for Acd | Manual reset after cleaning. |
| EtC | Clock fault | Clock in use but not set | Set the time (dAY, hr, Min). |
| SrC | Maintenance due (easy split only) | Service interval reached (HMP) | Set HMr = 1. |
How to enter service / parameter mode
- Hold SET for more than 3 seconds (mute the buzzer first if an alarm is active). PS shows.
- Without a password you can scroll the F (frequent) parameters straight away with UP and DOWN.
- For C (configuration) parameters, press SET at PS, enter the service password with UP/DOWN and press SET.

Notes
- Values are from the easy (not easy compact or split) table. Ranges differ a little on the other two families and on the PJEZ quick sheet.
For licensed technicians only. This equipment can involve mains voltage, high-voltage microwave circuits, gas and refrigerant. Isolate power (and gas) before opening panels, follow the manufacturer's manual and your local licensing rules (for example ARC refrigerant handling and electrical or gas licences). Wrong settings can spoil food or damage equipment. Check every value on the unit in front of you before changing it.
